Record and edit screen video

Snap Studio records an area or a whole screen with sound and keeps the recording in the same library as your screenshots, ready to trim and share.

    Record

    1. Press Print Screen and choose the area, or use Capture > Video in the editor.
    2. Choose video on the capture bar. Recording starts with the sources set in Settings > Video: system sound, your microphone, the frame rate and how the mouse pointer appears.
    3. Use Pause and Resume as often as you like; the breaks are left out of the video. Save finishes the recording and Discard throws it away.

System sound and microphone are kept as separate tracks, so you can change the balance or mute either one afterwards.

    Cut and trim

    • Press Space to play and pause, and the left and right arrow keys to step one frame.
    • Press Ctrl+B to cut at the playhead, click a piece on the waveform and press Delete to remove it. The gap closes on its own.
    • Drag the handles at either end of the waveform to fade the sound in or out, and use Normalize to even out the loudness.
    • Press Shift+Z to fit the whole clip, or hold Alt and turn the mouse wheel to zoom the timeline.

    Join and export

Select two or more recordings in the film strip and choose Lossless stitch to join them without re-encoding, so the picture stays exactly as recorded. Encode makes a new MP4 when you need another size, a different codec or your annotations drawn into the picture; it uses your graphics card when it can. Split divides a recording in two, and Export audio saves just the sound.

If you edit in DaVinci Resolve, Export Resolve archive packages the recordings and their layers as a Resolve project.
